Ibell’s work often uses the familiar to express the impossible. Distortions of the real, and the repetition of imagery combine to create recognizable yet mysterious spaces. These distortions of the familiar transform the physical space into a psychological space.
Alan Ibell was born in Christchurch and currently resides in Dunedin. He recently graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts through the Otago Polytechnic. A finalist in the James Wallace Art Awards 2009, Ibell is also a musician forming the alternative folk group The Alan Ibell Band in 2006. His debut album If Bird Or Devil was released in early in 2009. |
