| Josh Olley and Amelia Guthrie |
Josh Olley and Amelia Guthrie work full-time from their home in Wanaka. A self-taught carver, Josh initially worked in bone, progressing to stone, wood and shells as a means of introducing colour to his work.
Josh and Amelia carve with small hand-tools, necessary for the fine detail and finishing achieved in their work. Their carvings are influenced by both natural forms and traditional Maori motifs. Their work functions as a means of expressing their respect and appreciation for nature.
“Our pieces come with messages that convey natural laws and principles which can enlighten our lives and nurture the world around us. Preserving the ancient language of carving is important to us”.
