Creme II - 16 January - 9 February 2009
Crème II follows Gallery Thirty Three’s annual tradition of drawing together superlative new works by some of New Zealand’s senior and esteemed practitioners. An amalgam of styles, mediums, techniques and themes, Creme II is a unique opportunity to view new works by artists of distinction in the one location. The underlying emphasis that unites this exhibition is the celebration of ongoing achievements of those who have already made a significant contribution to contemporary New Zealand art.
We are very excited about the line up of those contributing to the show which will include Don Binney, Paul Dibble, Don Driver, Ian Scott, Sylvia Siddell, Peter Siddell, Michael Smither, Grahame Sydney & Glenda Randerson.

Sculpture in Central Otago - Rippon 2009
6 February– 3 May 2009
Sculpture in Central Otago has been bringing quality New Zealand sculpture to the majestic vineyard region of Central Otago since 2004. The next Sculpture in Central Otago event, scheduled for February 2009, is moving from Bannockburn to Wanaka’s Rippon Vineyard, described by many as one of most beautiful vineyard settings in the world. Located on the western shores of Lake Wanaka on undulating terrain, within a basin of the Southern Alps, this site is ideal for large-scale sculptures that will be positioned to form a sculpture trail through the extensive and varied vineyard and the natural features of the landscape.

The gala opening with wine and food will be opened by a guest speaker Don Binney on the evening of Friday 6 February. This is a unique opportunity to meet many of the exhibiting sculptors. Tickets can be purchased from Gallery Thirty Three in Wanaka or The Arthouse in Christchurch.

Staff News:
We welcome art consultant Anna Muirhead to our team. Anna recently graduated with a Masters in Fine Art through the Otago Polytechnic, School of Art. She comes highly recommended from the Southland Museum where she has been employed as the Custodian. Over the years Anna has held several art related positions in Dunedin including employment at the Blue Oyster Gallery and the Cleveland Art Centre. As a practicing artist, she has won numerous awards and residencies including the William Hodges Fellowship, Invercargill, 2008 and the Margaret Stoddart Award, Christchurch, 2007.
We say a big farewell, good luck and congratulations to art consultant Harmony Gaw. Her drive, passion and laughter will be missed. Harmony has been employed by Gallery Thirty Three on and off for the last five years. She will be leaving us in the New Year to fulfill her other passion – competitive paragliding. We are very proud of Harmony who is currently the New Zealand women’s paragliding champion. We hope she will return from her adventures and rejoin our team in the future!
Jane Zwerrenz, our Sunday art consultant will be leaving us in February to travel to Japan. We wish her all the best and have thoroughly enjoyed her contribution to the gallery.
Manager, Lydia Baxendell is currently finalising the exhibition programme for 2009 which is filled with tantalizing new shows she can’t wait to tell you about! Lydia is also completing her Masters in Art History through Otago University and hopes to complete her studies in 2009.
