A response to the Central Otago Rabbit Population!

A plague of rabbits and hares has over taken the walls, floor and even the ceiling of Gallery Thirty Three in Wanaka. Often perceived as cute and cuddly, these furry friends are also a pest of particular concentration within Central Otago. Coinciding with the annual bunny hunt (a renowned shooting event to cull rabbits over Easter); Run Rabbit Run is an exhibition revolving around the emblematic form of the Oryctolagus cuniculus – the rabbit. With an already burgeoning rabbit population, it is curious to consider importing an eclectic and colourful mix of rabbits and hares into Central Otago, however this is exactly what has occurred. A selection of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists in a variety of fields were chosen to consider the ‘hare’ raising subject matter. From painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and jewellery, Run Rabbit Run is a somewhat amusing response to the rabbit inhabitants of Wanaka. Showcasing: Madeleine Child, Barry Clarke, Barry Cleavin, Mike Cooke, Bing Dawe, Paul Dibble, Kate Fitzharris, Rachael Garland, Anna Hollings, Aidan Howse, Cheryl Lucas, Annie Sandano, Andela Singer, Ben Reid, John Roy and Julie Ross.
